PRESENT DAY BLOOD GULCH:

             My wrists ache.  They're chafing on the nylon cord that he used to bind them together so he could drag me down here.  And the cord remains, rubbing my wrists a little bit closer to raw every time I attempt to move them.  They could have untied me.  It's not as if I can escape from this base without any weapon or any armor.  I don't even have a shirt to cover my torso.

PRESENT DAY BLOOD GULCH:

            Looking back on everything, it all started out so simply.   I was a soldier for the Red Army.  I was a good guy, on the good team.  I enlisted and was sent to fight a war against the aliens that were threatening Earth, or the Blue Army, whichever I encountered first.  I'd been taught that they were both bad guys.  They were evil and everything that they stood for was wrong.  And then I landed in Blood Gulch... and everything went straight to hell.

#43 - Sleep

Sometimes I think I'm the only normal person at this base.  Even something as simple as sleeping is made abnormal by my superiors.  First there's Sarge. I'd heard stories of seasoned war vets who would sleep with their eyes wide open and with their finger on the trigger of their gun.  But now that I live with it as a reality, it's sort of scary.  I wake up every morning with a shotgun barrel pointing directly at my head.  Sarge may constantly threaten to kill Grif in his sleep... but I'm more worried about MY safety.  Simmons bunks above Sarge but he sometimes goes a week at a time without sleepin
